Prof. Honglie SUN, resource scientist and geographer. Prof. Sun, a former CAS Vice-president and leader of the Tibetan Plateau scientific survey, contributed greatly in Tibetan Plateau research. His contribution in research on Tibetan Plateau has made China the leader in this research area. He is a founding member of the Chinese Society of Natural Resources, editor-in-chief of China’s Resources Encyclopaedia, and has promoted resource science as an independent scientific discipline. Currently he focuses his research on China’s ecosystems and is heading the establishment of CERN – the Chinese Ecosystem Research Network. He was elected as academician of CAS in 1991.
