Name: LIU Jiyuan
Current Appointment: Professor
Prof. Jiyuan Liu is a geographer and a scientist engaged in the research works on resources and environmental remote sensing and geo-information science. He was born in the city of Shanghai in May 1947 and graduated from CAS and obtained master degree of Cartography and Remote Sensing in 1981.

From the early of 1980s, he has presided at and completed several key national projects on the resources and environment information, such as “Remote Sensing Investigation of Land Use in Tibet”, “Macro Investigation and Dynamic Analysis of National Resources and Environment Based on Remote Sensing”, “Construction of dynamic information service system of national fundamental resources and environment based on remote sensing”, “Construction of dynamic information service system of national fundamental resources and environment based on remote sensing”, and the key project on knowledge innovation of CAS, “Spatial-temporal information analysis of national land environment by remote sensing”.
On the basis of his research achievement of land resources and natural environment of China, he put forward a series of important research conclusions and propositions. He has been awarded several prizes, such as the second prize and third prize for national scientific and technical progress, first prize of scientific and technical progress of CAS, first prizes of scientific and technical progress of national ministries. He is SSC Member of IGBP/IHDP GLP, the president of China Society of Natural Resources, the executive member of China Society of Geography, the executive member of China National Committee for IGBP, the member of Scientific and Technical Committee of State Environment Protection Administration of China, and the member of the scientific committee of National Remote Sensing Center of China.
